Where Can You Gamble Online Legally?

can you gamble online legally

If you’re looking to gamble online, you have a lot of options. In states where gambling is legal, you can bet on sports events, play casino games and even participate in a variety of other wagering activities. The best part is that many of these sites offer a free trial so you can test the waters without risking your hard-earned money.

But before you start playing for real cash, it’s important to know if your state has laws in place that protect players. If you gamble on a site that isn’t licensed in your state, you could be breaking the law. And if you’re caught, you could face serious penalties.

Thankfully, more and more states are opening up their gambling markets to include online gaming. In fact, there are now 24 states and the District of Columbia that allow some form of online gambling. And with more states making it easier for residents to gamble, the industry is growing by leaps and bounds.

The first state to launch legal online gambling was New Jersey in 2013. The Garden State enacted legislation that allowed for sports betting and launched an iGaming marketplace in 2014. In the years since, more and more states have joined the party, making it possible for residents to gamble legally at home.

Pennsylvania is another example of a state that has made it easy for its residents to enjoy legal iGaming. Following the success of its neighboring states, the Keystone State passed a bill in 2021 to make online gambling legal and began offering its own iGaming marketplace in 2022.

Rhode Island is another state that has taken steps to legalize online gambling. In June of 2023, the Ocean State became the seventh to make it legal for its residents to bet on sports and other events via regulated sites. And with the state’s proximity to Pennsylvania and New Jersey, it shouldn’t be long before the other two follow suit.

Kentucky is also one of the most recent states to make it legal for its residents to wager on sports online. But while the Bluegrass State now offers online sports betting, online casino play isn’t yet available.

Utah is another state that has a strong anti-gambling attitude and doesn’t allow any type of gambling. This includes online casino games, though social casinos are still legal in the state.

Massachusetts is another state that launched sports betting in March of 2023, but online casino play wasn’t a part of the initial legalization process. This is likely because lawmakers are waiting to see how things go with sports betting before considering legalizing casino games.
